We hope to give you an insight into both our
commercial and stud enterprises. At Belmore we aim to provide the
industry with superior cattle using the best genetics available
from around the world.
We offer the benefits of a lifetimes commitment
to improving the profitability of the Shorthorn breed, utilising
all of the objective and subjective measurements available.
Being Group Breed Plan recorded and with a Johnes
MN2 status Belmore is situated at the forefront of the industry.
The Belmore stud was founded by Andy Withers in 1969 to compliment
the familys commercial Shorthorn herd.
Belmore Station is north of Lake Victoria in far West
NSW in pastoral country with a 9 inch rainfall and cattle were expected
to be functional, fertile and profitable.
In 1980 Andy, Sally and their three daughters moved
down to the Limestone Coast region of South Australia into light
sandy country with a regular 22 inch winter rainfall. The property
Exmoor is nicely situated in between the famous Padthaway
and Coonawarra wine regions!
We have always sought to breed cattle with industry
leading performance - but not at the expense of structural excellence,
fertility and doing ability.
The ability to finish on grass in typical Australian
production systems is paramount.
Now in 2005 we are running 400 stud and 200 commercial
shorthorn females with over 100 bulls sold annually to regular clients
all over Australia.
We have teams of bulls in Naracoorte, Northern and
Dubbo Bull Sales as well as the Alice Springs Show & Sale and
have a bi annual on property female sale offering top quality proven
bloodlines from our herd.
We are continually improving the performance and efficiency
of the herd to meet the demands of todays and the futures
markets.
